General Le Marrois Circular silver covered vegetable dish. The handles are decorated with branches, foliage and stylised shells. The rims are decorated with fillets. The lid surmounted by an acorn-shaped seed set on a radiating terrace. The lid and body engraved with the arms of Jean LE MAROIS (1776- 1836). Goldsmith : L. RUCHMANN (Insculpation in 1811) Paris 1st title hallmark with the Old Man and Paris guarantee hallmark with the head of Ceres, 1819-1838. Weight : 1 086 g. Diameter (without handles): 20.3cm Width with handles: 30.1cm Height: 16.2cm. Biography: General LE MARROIS, (1776-1836), count of the Empire, he was a division general distinguished himself from his military beginnings, becoming aide-de-camp to BONAPARTE. He stood out at the battles of Lodi and Roveredo, where he was seriously wounded. Promoted to brigadier general in 1802 and to division after Austerlitz, he held various posts, including governor and commander in Italy and Germany. He distinguished himself again at the defence of Magdeburg in 1813. After the fall of Napoleon, he retired from military life. During the Hundred Days, he was appointed Peer of France and commander of divisions, before retiring after Waterloo. He was also best man at the wedding of Napoleon and Joséphine de BEAUHARNAIS.
