Aurore Dudevant (1866-1961) was Georges SAND's granddaughter; in 1889 she married Frédéric Lauth, a painter (1865-1922). A widow with no children, Aurore Dudevant adopted a 47-year-old man in 1958, the architect Georges-André Smeets (1911-1970), who took the name Georges Smeets-Dudevant-Sand.
