Georges Bastard, Peacocks, circa 1912-1913
Mother-of-pearl broken fan, cut and engraved with six peacocks facing each other. The iridescence of the mother-of-pearl between green and violet recalls the colours of the peacock's eyes.
The back plume is signed "G. Bastard".
Height 18.7 cm (incomplete, two strands restored)
An example of this fan is in the collections of the Musée d'Orsay in Paris (DO 1977-6). It was presented at the Palais Galliera exhibition in 1985 "L'éventail, Miroir de la Belle Époque", cat. 38, ill. p. 54.
