Also known as an illustrator under the pseudonym Cabriol, Georges Lorin was a versatile artist who was a painter, sculptor, caricaturist, musician and poet. In 1879-1880, he was one of the main illustrators of the newspaper Les Hydropathes and worked with a number of other Parisian periodicals, including Le Chat noir, Le Grelot, Le Tout-Paris and La Vie moderne. After taking part in the Arts incohérents exhibitions between 1882 and 1889, he turned resolutely towards symbolism and took part in the first two Salons de la Rose-Croix organised in 1892 and 1893 by Joséphin Peladan. Our large painting, depicting the allegorical representation of a Spring, was presented by the artist at the second edition of the famous Idealist Salon (no. 137).
