Extremely rare first edition of this famous speech on style, which Buffon had printed in a few copies for private use (and which was subsequently republished, together with Moncrif's speech, on 25 August 1753, in-4, 21 p.). We know the copy in the BnF (Z.28258), and the one in the library of the comte de Lignerolles, with a consignment to Loppin de Gémeaux. The latter is bound, untrimmed, as issued.
