Lot no. 8
Georges REMI, known as HERGÉ (1907-1983)
LES QUICK & FLUPKE GAMINS DE BRUXELLES (1st series)
2nd plate P2, les éditions du Petit Vingtième, red cloth spine
9th mile.
The publication of this second album, the first of the adventures of Quick & Flupke gamins de Bruxelles, published by Abbé Wallez and les éditions du Petit Vingtième, followed that of Tintin au pays des Soviets by three months, hitting bookshops on 25 December 1930.
Hergé dedicated and signed this album to Abbé Helsen on 20 April 1932, at the same time as the album Tintin in the Congo. Abbé Helsen was one of the abbots who supervised the scouts at the Saint Boniface institute in Ixelles when Hergé was 15. His dedication evokes this period with nostalgia: "...in memory of the good and happy years of scouting...".
Good to very good condition, red cloth spine intact, boards soiled but in nice condition, edges rubbed in places, inner quires very clean and homogeneous. A museum piece because of this historic and moving dedication which goes back to the beginning of Hergé's life and takes us to the heart of his creative inspiration. A museum piece because of its provenance.
