Lot no. 3
Georges REMI, known as HERGÉ (1907-1983) QUICK & FLUPKE BRUSSELS KIDS 4th series 2nd plate A1, 1937, Casterman, Red cloth spine Blue endpapers. Copy numbered by Hergé and dedicated. This album will be referenced in the next BDM. This album was part of Hergé's personal collection. It seems that Hergé himself numbered this album at the time, thus creating a unique and personal first edition (as there is no known first edition of this title). Hergé affixed a number 5 and then dedicated it in his name and in the name of his wife Germaine to three people (on the same album), signing Quick & Flupke and G. et G. Rémi in superb fountain-pen handwriting. Apart from the last five titles, Coke en Stock, Tintin au Tibet, Les Bijoux de la Castafiore, Vol 714 pour Sydney and Tintin et les Picaros, no first editions were printed by Casterman, which is why, for this title, the first published by the company, Hergé has, As with the first three adventures of his characters published by Le Petit Vingtième, Hergé created a special first edition for his own use, signing it himself and asking his wife Germaine to sign it too, as she did the first editions published by Le Petit Vingtième. It is estimated that there were no more than five of these albums, of which the present copy is the only one known to date. Faced with the popularity of Tintin and the increased work generated by his successes, following the example of Disney, in 1950 the Hergé studio, which became Hergé dessinateur, evolved to become Studios Hergé, based on Avenue Louise in Brussels. The importance of this album lies in the fact that, once it had been created, Hergé affixed the Studios stamp to the copy that he had kept with him since its release. To date, we know of only one series of Quick and Flupke albums, of which this is one, in which Hergé created a first edition and, during his lifetime, stamped it with the Studios Hergé stamp, thus confirming his attachment to the characters he created at the same time as Tintin. Mint condition. Sublime boards, corners, headpieces, spine and interior. This album once belonged to Hergé, who numbered his personal collection of Quick & Flupke to create a unique first edition! Extremely rare and exceptional mailing signed Quick et Flupke and G. et G. Remi. A museum piece due to its provenance. Hergé/Tintinimaginatio 2024
