Lot no. 111
Georges VAN DE VOORDE (1878-1964). Group of three condemned men. Sculpture in plaster illustrating the National Monument erected in Schaerbeek in memory of the Patriots shot by the enemy during the 1914-1918 and 1940-1945 wars, which we owe to the artist. In addition to numerous postcards from the period illustrating the monument, the daily newspaper La Dernière Heure devoted its front page to it on 13 October 1950. There were also other mentions in the main newspapers of the period (Gazet van Antwerpen) and La Nation of 18 June 1956, which reported that His Majesty King Baudouin was meditating in front of the monument. Height: 61 cm. Provenance: Artist's studio. Collection of the Vandevoorde family since the mid-1960s (the spelling of the surname has no space in the civil register). We enclose a certificate of authenticity and provenance signed by Mr and Mrs Vandevoorde, the artist's grandchildren.
