Lot no. 125
Georges VAN DE VOORDE (1878-1964). Triton blowing into a conch shell. Preparatory proof in plaster before final realisation in ivory. This noble material was used on several occasions by the artist, sometimes in a crude manner, where he worked directly on the tusk of an elephant, which he meticulously hollowed out to give life to remarkable subjects seeming to emerge from the cylinder. On other occasions, he created sculptures and groups in the round in the manner of Victor Rousseau or Philippe Wolfers. Height: 29 cm. Provenance: Artist's studio. Collection of the Vandevoorde family since the mid-1960s (the spelling of the surname has no space in the civil register). We enclose a certificate of authenticity and provenance signed by Mr and Mrs Vandevoorde, the artist's grandchildren.
