He has signed a contract with the publisher Souverain "for sixty francs for the shared printing of a book. As the review would cost me much more, and as M. Buloz has promised me that we will appear on the 15th, I will be obliged if you will acknowledge the 60 francs and pay them at the end of June. You will then have to withhold them from me"... In the margin, a note a.s. from Gerdès (printer and cashier of the Revue des Deux Mondes): "When M. Gérard de Nerval's article has appeared in the Revue, I will account for these sixty francs to M. Souverain". [This refers to Confidences de Nicolas (which appeared in the Revue des Deux Mondes from 15 August to 15 September 1850). As for the "shared printing of a book", this refers to the two volumes of Scènes de la vie orientale already published in 1848 and of which Souverain bought back the unsold copies that he put on sale again in 1850-1851].
