GERMAIN (Pierre). Eléments d'orfèvrerie. Paris, chez l'auteur, 1748. 2 volumes in-4, paperback, contemporary marbled paper covers. Complete first edition of both parts of this "precious collection containing the most beautiful models of Parisian silverware from the time of Louis XV" (Cohen). It contains two engraved titles, 3 pages for the dedication, the notice and the table, and 100 plates engraved by Pasquier and Baquoy after drawings by Pierre Germain (93) and Jacques Roëttiers (7). This is the first of two collections of models published by the Parisian goldsmith Pierre Germain dit le Romain (1703-1783), who was working for Jacques Roëttiers on the Place du Carrousel at the time. The second, entitled Livre d'ornemens composés par P. Germain, was published in 1751. These two collections were widely copied throughout Europe.
