Lot no. 108
German Post War Günther Förg Untitled. Woodcut on wove paper. 91.5 x 76.5 cm (96.5 x 80 cm). Signed, dated and numbered in Roman numerals and inscribed "Woodcut, orange (1990)" in an unknown hand verso. - Margins partially minimally and barely noticeably bumped. Overall very good and flawless. Splendid impression of the monochrome composition, the colour vibrant and fresh. Rare. One of 10 copies. - Günther Förg is considered a master of cross-media abstraction who impressively combined painting, photography, sculpture and printmaking. The woodcuts of the early 1990s represent a significant part of his graphic oeuvre and bear witness to his characteristic formal reduction. The present composition also epitomises the clarity the artist strived for, his material-related joy of experimentation and the reference to modular abstraction. The monochrome, large-format design in bright orange lends the print an impressive presence and reflects Förg's interest in spatially effective art. Woodcut.
