GERMAN WWI LION HEAD ULAN (UHLAN) OFFICER'S SWORD. Ca. AD 1915. A First World War German Ulan/Uhlan officer's sword of the Lion head varient. The Ulans were a form of light cavalry whose primary weapon was the lance. The handle is wrapped with brown leather and the brass hilt retains some gilt. The guard and hilt are decorated with floral designs and military paraphernalia, including a pair of crossed Ulan lances atop a laurel on the langet. Size: 1020mm x 165mm; Weight: 1.4kg Provenance: From the private collection of an Essex gentleman; previously in an old British Collection, formed in the 1980s.
