In-folio, brown marbled calf, spine decorated, blue edges decorated (18th century binding). 10 f. o.b. (last blank), 408 f. (actually 406), 1 f. (completed printing), 1 f. (printer's mark), 19 f. index. First edition of this important collection of the most important writings on surgery: Jean Tagault, Mariano Santo Angelo Bolognini, Michelangelo Biondo, Bartolomeo Maggi, Afonso Ferri, Johann Lange, Galen, Oribasius, as well as unpublished treatises. This collection was compiled by Comad Gessner. On pages 393-408, Gessner presents a list of 150 authors of medical literature in short bio-bibliographical notes. The work contains 150 woodcut illustrations: anatomical figures, surgical scenes, instruments, as well as a large number of initials illustrating medical subjects. Handwritten bookplate dated 1606 on the title; Docteur François Moutier. The copy is in very good condition, with no foxing or wetness. The binding is damaged, the upper cover is damaged and the jaws are split. VD16 G. 1707 - Garrison Morton 562 - Durling 960.
