Lot no. 7
Giacomo van Lint View of the Gulf of Gaeta Oil on canvas 27.5 x 51 cm It is Professor Sestieri who returned the above view to van Lint junior, representing a wide Mediterranean gulf, identifiable with that of Gaeta, probably freely reworked in the painter's studio without the aid of precise graphic contributions. It undoubtedly belongs to the Roman vedutistico strand of the late 18th century, with ready adherence to the 'fantasy' views of Gaspare van Wittel, but above all it is a view mediated by direct acquaintance with Locatelli, Busiri and especially Hendrik van Lint. The influence of his father is clearly recognisable in the general pictorial texture, together with the abbreviated ductus in the definition of details. Bibliography: 'Capricci, paesaggi e vedute. Dal XVII al XIX secolo', edited by Prof. Giancarlo Sestieri; Rome 2006; p. 52-53.
