Paris, Pierre Chevalier, 1621; folio (390 x 250 mm), spotted calf, ribbed spine decorated with crowned numerals and gilt fleurons, arms on covers (Period binding). (4) 730 (11)ff. 2 REMARKABLE PORTRAITS, BY LEONARD GAULTIER, OF HENRI IV AND THE YOUNG LOUIS XIII; 61 portraits of the other kings on 7 plates. Regulated copy. It belonged to the Duke of Mortemart (Louis de Rochechouart, duc de Mortemart 1681-1746) with his cipher on the spine, his arms on the boards and his bookplate ms. at the bottom of the title "Je suis au duc de mortemart". A great lover of books, prints and objets d'art, he was the grand-nephew of Madame de Montespan. The first Duke of Mortemart (Gabriel, 1600-1675), a playmate of the young Louis XIII, was his highly influential adviser throughout his reign. Binding faded (more solid than elegant restorations to corners and headpieces, small splits to hinges).
