In 1967, the director of Jour de fête mortgaged the family home and the rights to his previous masterpieces in order to complete the filming of Playtime. But Playtime was a serious failure. His production company went bankrupt and the films were seized. For Paris Match, on 17 January 1977, he agreed to pose as Monsieur Hulot who found his reels. A few months later, the purchase of the prints put a smile back on his face. Lots are sold inclusive of VAT. VAT, at the current rate of 20%, is included in the auction price. This VAT is recoverable by the French professional.
