This photograph by Jacques Tati has a tragicomic story worthy of his iconic films. In 1967, the director of Jour de fête mortgaged the family home and the rights to his previous masterpieces in order to complete the filming of Playtime. But Playtime was a serious failure. His production company went bankrupt and the films were seized. For Paris Match, on 17 January 1977, he agreed to pose as Monsieur Hulot who found his reels. A few months later, the purchase of the prints put a smile back on his face.
