Giovanni Boldini (signature_of) - Portrait of a Lady late 19th - early 20th century - oil on paper applied to canvas 107 x 92 cm The painting, accompanied by a card by Prof. Claudio Strinati (7 July 2001), would show the characteristics of Boldini's painting between the ninth and the last decade of the 19th century. The frenetic and nervous mark of the surface would suggest the master's works after the contact he made during his brief stay in New York in 1897 with the painter James Whistler.The portrait, with the signature on the lower right, was previously identified as Mademoiselle Lantèlme, the young actress who, from the end of the 19th century, had an affair with Alfred Edwards, who commissioned the famous portrait of the woman in 1907, now in the National Gallery in Rome.The diagnostic data carried out by Prof. Falcucci in 2023 also confirmed the dating of the painting to the last decade of the 19th century and attested the relevance of the signature to the time of the painting, making the thesis that the work presented here is an early portrait of Geneviève Lantèlme even more suggestive. She is not portrayed as the grand dame of the Parisian upper middle class, but as a theatre actress, slightly unkempt but with a provocative gaze and lascivious loose hair. The work is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity by Professor Claudio Strinati, dated 7 July 2001, and by the diagnostic investigations carried out by Professor Claudio Falcucci's M.I.D.A. company (23/02/2023).
