Giovanni da Bologna gen. Giambologna (1529 Douai - 1608 Florence) after the Robbery of a Sabine woman Serpentine. Detailed, fully sculpted, subtly polished sculpture, executed as a Grand Tour object in Italy in the 19th century, probably in Florence. Modelled on Giambologna's famous masterpiece completed in 1582/83. Its skilfully intertwined, complex composition of three different nude figures, designed for multiple views, is considered one of the most perfect embodiments of Mannerist sculpture. The marble sculpture installed in the Loggia dei Lanzi in Florence inspired many sculptors of the following generations from the end of the 16th century until well into the 19th century; matching square serpentine pedestal.
