Pisa: Vallerini, s.d.Complete and homogeneous collection of 166 etchings by Giovanni Fattori published in Florence on 6 September 1925 by the publisher Benaglia on the occasion of the centenary of the artist's birth.The edition, commonly known as the "centenary print-run", was made possible thanks to the bequest to the Italian State (with deposit at the Gabinetto Disegni e Stampe degli Uffizi) of the 164 original plates by Giovanni Malesci, pupil and universal heir of the artist. The etchings were printed on 384x507 mm sheets of laid paper with watermark "Corona merlata su inscribed UMBRIA/ITALIA" and countermark "Lettere CP inscribed in double oval" and each one bears the embossed stamp "Centenario/Gio.Fattori/1925" at the bottom. The series of 166 etchings covers almost the entirety of Fattori's engraved work (a total of 174 known plates); they were selected by Giovanni Malesci who, of the plates in his possession, excluded 12 corroded ones and also 7 sides of the 164 plates used. The complete series is to be considered very rare due to the small number of copies remaining complete as many individual sheets from this edition have been dismembered and are commonly found loose.
