Gitta Gyenes was a Hungarian artist who was particularly known for her porcelain paintings, portraits and caricatures. She learned to paint in several cities, including Budapest, Vienna and Rome. As a woman of the world, she also made the acquaintance of the Hungarian poet Attila Joszef, who was more interested in Gyenes' daughter. In her artistic life she developed a progression from post-impressionism to abstract and cubist tendencies. From 1928, Gyenes was a member of the New Society for Artists. During the Second World War, Gyenes was on the run and later incarcerated.
