GIULIO TURCATO Mantova 1912 - Rome 1995 Meno 3, 1985 Polychrome lacquered wood sculpture in 10 x 3.20 x 2.40 m circa Exhibited XLII Biennale d’Arte, Venice 1986 The sculpture ‘Meno 3’ realized in 1985 was made by Giulio Turcato specifically for the XLII Biennale d’Arte di Venezia curated by Maurizio Calvesi in 1986 and dedicated to the theme "Art and Science". The event “Sculture all’aperto”, staged by the Biennale, the polychrome lacquered wood work, was placed along San Marco Basin, close to the Biennale Gardens. Its height and the formal articulation of sculpture made it one of the attractive events of Biennale. The work measures 10 m circa without the base, its width varies between 3.20 m and 2.40 for a total weight of about 330-350 kg. The artist planned to place the sculpture directly on the ground but on occasion of the Biennale was made a concrete base to protect it from the flow of public. The sculpture ‘Meno 3’ is now in perfect condition for the exhibition thanks to the work of Arch. Sandro Francalucci that, in addition to having joined the Master during assembly, took care of the perfect restoration. This Turcato imposing sculpture, was presented at the Via Nizza Macro Museum coinciding with “the day of studies” on the artist. From the title, referring to the launch of a missile, it is clear the artist wants to express the force of the form, so that the work main theme is Energy itself. Forms braveness and vitality cause admiration in the observer.
