FONTAINEBLEAU SANDSTONE Gogotte: Sandstone concretion of siliceous sand resulting from the displacement of phreatic liquid (saturated water dissolving the silica) leading to the phenomenon of grésification giving the unusual appearance peculiar to gogottes. Dating on the geological time scale (fossiliferous) probably Lower Oligocene -(33-28 mA) A fine specimen presented on a well-proportioned base. Gogotte, Fontainebleau, probably from the Lower Oligocene (33-28 million years) Total weight : 48 K 5 g. - Total weight : 1 710,78 OZ/106,9 lbs HEIGHT 66 CM - H. 26 IN. This mineral specimen is not subject to regulation under the Washington Convention (CITES), European Community Regulation 338/97 of 09/12/1996, or the French Environment Code. These marvellous natural sculptures, prized since the 17th century, were used in the gardens of the Château de Versailles, notably in the garden of the three fountains. Today they are the pride of internationally renowned museums such as the Smithsonian Institution, the British Museum of Natural History, the Orleans Museum and others.
