In-folio, red morocco, listel and quadruple fillet gilt, spine similarly decorated, inner lace, gilt head, untrimmed, edged slipcase (Zaehnsdorf). First edition and first print run of this very fine work on Italy illustrated with 450 wood-engraved compositions by various artists such as A. de Bar, Bauernfeind, É. Bayard, Bergue, L. Crépon, K. Girardet, etc.
One of the rare copies on chine, the only large paper, luxuriously bound at the time by Joseph Zaehnsdorf, the excellent Hungarian bookbinder based in London.
Upper hinge cracked, some edge spotting.
