LARGE CHEST ASSEMBLED FROM LINTELS FROM THE MERINID OR SAADIE PERIOD Morocco or Spain, 15th-17th century Of rectangular form with a flat lid, a wrought-iron lock plate, the brass handles probably dating from the 18th century, the interior lined with a modern coloured floral fabric, constructed from carved wooden lintels from the same set, with repeated calligraphic and floral decoration, indicating "al-hamd" ("praise") in mirrored and woven kufic script, wear, traces of stucco and pigments.
