LARGE AND FINE TABRIZ CARPET (Northwest Iran, circa 1940 - 1950.) Ivory field decorated with fine scrolls of fine twisted crenellated branches with polychrome flower and foliage endings framing a central bluish-grey poly-lobed rosette inlaid with a crown of sky-blue and ruby star flowers surrounded by two finely drawn palmettes. Four spandrels with multicoloured stylised palmettes. Eight borders, the main one midnight blue, decorated with interlacing bulbs and palmettes of flowers surrounded by fine crenellated stems in the shape of stylized ram's horns in polychrome. High-quality silky wool velvet on cotton backing. Beautiful polychromy. Size 308 x 200 cm. Good condition.
