LARGE PAINTED BUDDHIST SCROLL Thailand or Cambodia, late 19th - early 20th century Gold and opaque pigments on paper, large vertical composition divided into successive narrative registers illustrating an episode from the life of the Buddha or a Jataka. In the upper part, the king enthroned in a pavilion with superimposed roofs receives his courtiers; in the centre, scenes of daily life and strolling outside the palace; in the lower part, equestrian procession and tiger hunt in a stylised landscape.
