LARGE MECHKIN RUG (Iran, Ardebil and Tabriz region, north-west Iran, circa 1980) A navy blue field decorated with a mosaic of flower buds, in the form of stylised broken diamonds adorned with two tangled hexagonal medallions. Four Prussian blue spandrels with motifs echoing the central field. Seven borders, the main one salmon pink with star-shaped flowers encircled by lace leaves. Wool velvet on cotton foundation.
