LARGE, PRECIOUS GILT BRONZE AND POLYCHROME PORCELAIN GRANDFATHER CLOCK, FRANCE CIRCA 1870 A gilded bronze and polychrome porcelain pendulum clock with a magniloquent architectural structure, centred by an ancona supported by two scaled pilasters surmounted by caryatid busts. On either side of the central body, two gilded bronze putti sit atop a large mixtilinear plinth, supported by jar feet with a chiselled tip and lip. Above the car, a triumph of festoons ends in a frame within which is a portrait of Madame Du Barry, taken from the painting by Vigée-Le Brun. White enamel dial with blue Roman numerals, Arabic numerals at 5 o'clock for the minutes, signed Paris, burnished steel hands, movement with anchor escapement, hour and half-hour strike on bell, wire suspension, pendulum and winding key present, working movement to be overhauled.
