LARGE VITRINE CLOCK WITH PAINTED DIAL AND AUTOMATA, FRANCE 1851 large wall case with theca structure, with large oil painting on panel, depicting the Crystal Palace in London, made in 1851 and destroyed by fire in 1936, the painting captures the work of Geroge Hawkins. In the upper part is a clock, with an enamel dial with Roman numerals in blue, signed Tharin Paris, gilt bronze hands. 15-day movement, with hour and half-hour strike on gong. The automatons, simulating walking in the grounds of the Grand Palace, during the 1851 London World's Fair. Pendulum present. Clock to be overhauled, automaton mechanism functioning but to be overhauled. H. 94 cm, W. 120 cm, D. 20 cm. LARGE CASE CLOCK WITH CRYSTAL PALACE, PAINTED DIAL AND AUTOMATOES, FRANCE 1851 The Crystal palace, was an imposing glass and iron structure designed by Joseph Paxton, an engineer specialising in large glasshouses, the building was characterised by its bright and innovative appearance for the time, and was built for the London Exhibition in Hyde Park from 01 May to 15 October 1851. The building hosted exhibitions from all over the world, showcasing the industrial advances and technological innovations of the time. The building covered an area approximately four times the size of St Peter's Basilica and was the largest and most innovative architecture ever built up to that time, attracting millions of visitors. The building was initially installed in Hyde Park, with the stipulation that it would later be removed, and was moved to Sydenham Hille, but was destroyed by fire in 1936
