The work was written by the historian and Bishop of Amelia Antonio Maria Graziani (1537-1611). Divided into five books, it retraces the Ottoman conquest of the island of Cyprus (1570-1573) and its consequences for the Mediterranean, while revealing the weaknesses of Christian Europe in the face of Turkish expansion.
At the head of the book is a biography of the author by Jean Victor Rossi, taken from the Pinacotheca imaginum illustrium doctrinae vel ingenii laude virorum...
The edition is illustrated with a frontispiece engraved by Simonneau, a title vignette, 4 handsome bands and four initials.
