TTB. Seleucus II was the son of Antiochos II and his first wife, Laodicea. When his father died, probably by poisoning in 246, he was proclaimed king by his mother's supporters in Ephesus. However, his half-brother Antiochus was proclaimed king at the same time by Berenice, sister of Ptolemy III and second wife of Antiochus II. After Berenice and her son were murdered by Laodicea, Ptolemy III launched the 3rd Syrian War, which saw the sack of Antioch. After 241, Seleucus II still had to deal with the revolt of his younger brother, Antiochus Hierax. He died in 225 following a riding accident.
