GREEK BLACK-GLAZED GUTTUS WITH ALEXANDER THE GREAT CHARGING ON HORSE
Ca. 300 BC. A rare blackware guttus form with a rounded, ribbed body, a single loop handle, and a high spout with a funnel mouth, all on a raised foot. The tondo is decorated in a low-relief scene depicting Alexander the Great riding a horse in profile. The vessel is covered in a jet-black glaze, and scattered areas of faint iridescence complement the lustrous colour, a reserved band around the pedestal.
