GREEK CARNELIAN AND GOLD NECKLACE
Ca. 1st millennium BC. A necklace composed of striated agate and carnelian beads, alternating with pearl and gold beads, creates a colour balance that was extremely fashionable in antiquity, where red was often combined with pearls. The beads feature globular and natural shapes. The necklace is secured at the back with a hook and hoop mechanism. For similar see: Christie's, Live Auction, 4925, Ancient Jewelry, Lot 346.
