GREEK IRON RING WITH APHRODITE.
Ca. 400 - 200 BC An iron ring with an integral flat oval bezel cast in one piece with the hoop and engraved with a standing Aphrodite. The goddess is shown in profile with her weight on one leg, wrapped in a long garment, one arm bent and the other extended towards a small column or altar at her side. Size: D:19.56mm / US: 9 3/4 / UK: T; Weight: 9.6g. Provenance: Private London collection; previously part of a distinguished New York private collection, assembled between 1975 and 1995. The collection was documented and authenticated in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Ogden and Barbara Deppert Lippitz, leading specialists in ancient jewellery. A significant number of objects from this collection were published in a professional catalogue, a copy of which is available upon request.
