GREEK MARBLE STELE WITH INSCRIPTION Ca. 300 - 100 BC. A marble stele of rectangular form with a triangular pediment, framed by a raised moulding along the outer edge. The pediment is decorated with a central circular boss. Below, a recessed rectangular panel encloses a standing draped figure rendered in low relief. An inscribed text occupies the space above the figure and continues below, reading: “Menandros, son of Bokios, (set this up) in memory (mnēmēs charin). Kanousta dedicated it.” A tenon projects from the base. For similar see: S. Moscati, I Fenici, Bompiani, Palazzo Grassi, 1989, Cat 194-197.
