GREEK PARCEL-GILT SILVER PATERA.
Ca. 500 - 300 BC A parcel-gilt silver patera with a wide, shallow circular bowl and a plain rim, set with a long tubular handle attached at one side. The centre of the interior is ornamented with a gilt gorgoneion in high relief, the face framed by thick curling hair. The handle terminates in a gilt lion head finial with pronounced muzzle and bared teeth. Size: 280mm x 160mm; Weight: 430g. Provenance: Private UK Collection; UK art market, 2000s; Elias-Vates collection, The Netherlands, 1980s-1990s; Ex-collection of F. H. Piket, Netherlands, acquired in 1970s in Belgium.
