GREGORY OF NYSSA. De virginitate liber. Antwerp, Christophe Plantin, 1574. - JOHN CHRYSOSTOM. De virginitate liber. Ibid, 1575. 2 works in one volume in-4, marbled basane, spine decorated, red edges (18th century binding). Greek editio princeps of the treatise on virginity by Gregory of Nyssa (Niksar in Turkey), 4th century bishop and Father of the Church. John Chrysostom's treatise on the same subject, published the following year, has been bound in. Both edited by Jan Lievens, they are printed in Greek alongside a Latin translation.
A copy of Henri Arnauld (1597-1692), bishop of Angers and brother of the Great Arnauld, with a handwritten bookplate on the title. The volume was then given by Étienne Le Camus (1632-1707) to Étienne Baluze (1630-1718), with a handwritten ex-dono and bookplate. It then belonged to the Benedictine abbey of Saint-Urbain, in Champagne, with a manuscript bookplate dated 1736.
