Khanjian's subjects ranged from still-lifes to landscapes and especially Armenian themes, amongst them important moments in Armenian history. His works were often nationalist in character, and celebrated this rich history, including in his murals for the Yerevan Cascade (now Cafesjian Museum of Art), which formed the backdrop for Hillary Clinton's speech in July 2010.
