Lot no. 25
GRITSCH (Conradus). Quadragesimale Gritsch una cum registro sermonum de tempore et de sanctis per circulum anni. Lyon, Jean Trechsel, 23 October 1489. In-4 goth. of [250] ff. with two columns, paperback, dust jacket. Very rare Lyon incunabulum. This collection of sermons for Lent is attributed in all early editions to Johannes Gritsch, a canon in Basel. Today, however, it is attributed to his brother Conradus Gritsch (1409-1475), a Franciscan friar who served in several Swiss churches. Printed in Nuremberg from 1474, the work went through more than 24 incunabula editions. This is the second to appear in Lyon and the first of three editions published by Jean Trechsel. A rubricated copy decorated with red initials. Old inscriptions in ink on the first and last leaves. Copy to be bound, complete with blank leaf b10 but without blank leaf H6. Tears without missing on the first leaf, some worm spots, light wetness on part of the volume, scattered soiling. ISTC ig00503600 - R 1221 - BMC VIII 292 - GW 11555.
