Large, magnificent Meissen potpourri vase with cotton wool scene and floral decoration on a square base supported by scrolled volute feet. Baluster-shaped, strongly bulging vase body over a multi-jointed round foot. Palm leaves rising in relief on the sides as handles. Hollowed, open-worked lid, crowned by a finely sculpted floral arrangement. Rocaille and scattered flower decoration in relief on all sides with lavishly applied festoons of flowers and fruit as well as scattered insects and butterflies. Below a seated flora with a filled flower basket, above a floating cupid. On both sides of the wall a large, so-called cotton wool scene with a musical company and a colourful flower arrangement. Fine polychrome painting with rich gold decoration. Designed by Johann Joachim Kaendler. Partially chipped/remnant; crossed swords mark. Vase h. 73 cm. Base h. 13 cm. A splendid potpourri porcelain vase with corresponding base finely applied with flowers, figures of Flora and a cupid, finely painted with Watteau scene and flower bouquet modelled by J. J. Kaendler. Partly chipped/restored. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. 2nd half 19th cent.
