Lot no. 805
A large, rare Meissen offering plate from the Sulkowski service of quatrefoil moulded, faceted form with interlaced relief decoration, so-called "Sulkowski-Ozier" on the rim. In the recessed mirror the crowned alliance coat of arms of Imperial Count Alexander Joseph Sulkowski and his wife Marie Anna Franziska von Stain zu Jettingen, held by two upright lions, surrounded by iron-red and sea-green rice straw bundles and scattered flowers in the Kakiemon style. Polychrome painting with gold staffage. Unw. rest.; minimally rubbed; crossed swords mark. 40 cm x 35 cm x 5 cm. Alexander Joseph Sulkowski came from an old Polish noble family. He married Marie Anna von Stain zu Jettingen in 1728. After his elevation to Imperial Count at the Saxon court under August II and his successor August III, he held several offices until 1738. Sulkowski was also responsible for the acquisition of porcelain for the Japanese Palace. The extensive service with the Sulkowski coat of arms, which he commissioned without the consent and at the expense of the Saxon royal family, was probably a decisive factor in his dismissal. Emperor Franz I elevated Sulkowski to the rank of Imperial Prince in 1752. Cf. cat. Coll. Hoffmeister, vol. II, p. 594, no. 16; Coll. Wark, no. 517 ff.; Rückert, no. 490; Weber, Meissener Porzellan mit Dekoren nach ostasiatischen Vorbildern; Cat. Slg. Schneider, Lustheim Castle, p. 334, no. 131. A large rare porcelain plate with coat of arms of Count of the empire Sulkowski. Insignificantly restored. Minor rubbed. Crossed swords mark. Meissen. Circa 1735 - 1738.
