Lot no. 881
Large, rare Meissen costume figurine "Lady with cat". A young noblewoman standing on a naturalistic plinth, looking down, wearing a medieval-style, floral patterned dress with beige trim and a bag belted at the side. Her head is adorned with a splendid bonnet set with precious stones. With her right hand she lifts her dress, to which a cat sitting on the floor has clung. Polychrome painting with partly etched gold staffage. Designed by Heinrich Goeschl, 1882, model no. M 190, unmarked; crossed swords mark. H. 40 cm.
The sculptor Heinrich Goeschl (1839 - 1896) studied at the art academy in Munich under Max Widnmann and others. He mainly produced small sculptures in bronze and ivory, which he exhibited in Munich. He created numerous genre figures and groups of figures in medieval, Renaissance, Empire and Biedermeier costumes. Between 1880 and 1882, the Meissen manufactory acquired six models by Goeschl. The counterpart to the present figure is a hunter in medieval dress with a crossbow accompanied by a hunting dog (model no. M 189).
