Large eagle. White porcelain. An eagle standing on a high rock base in a statuesque pose with outstretched wings, its head turned slightly to the left. Plumage in relief. Designed by Arthur Storch, c. 1938, artist's monogr. "A.St.". Model no. 18017, remainder; manufacturer's mark. H. 54 cm.
Born in Volkstedt, Arthur Storch (1870 - 1947) was one of the most important animal sculptors of his time. In 1920/21, Arthur Storch and his artist colleague Hugo Meisel created a cycle of characteristic large porcelain animals - moulded in the oldest Volkstedt porcelain factory - for an exhibition at the 1921 spring fair in the so-called "Porzellan-Palais", which are still regarded today as "special achievements of technical craftsmanship".
