GROSZ (George). Ecce Homo. Berlin, Der Malik-Verlag, [1923]. In-4, paperback, illustrated cover, black half-maroquin slipcase and folder (Devauchelle). First edition of this capital satirical album, comprising 100 plates, including 16 colour compositions and 84 black drawings by the German expressionist and Dadaist George Grosz (1893-1959).
A virulent satire of German society between the wars, in which the artist gave free rein to his hatred of the clergy, the bourgeoisie, militarism and German nationalism, Ecce Homo was seized by the authorities and its author had to appear in court on a charge of gross indecency.
A copy of the C series in its illustrated publisher's boards.
