Lot no. 76
GUÉRIN Charles (1873-1907). Sonnets et un poème, new edition. Paris, Mercure de France, 1897; in-12, brick box, spine ribbed with black fillets extending over the boards, black inner fillets, grey moire endpapers, gilt edges on witnesses, cover, slipcase (P. L. Martin). First collective edition by this twenty-three-year-old author, bringing together Fleurs de neige and l'Art parjure. These sonnets are "models of the purest classical tradition" (Talvart, VII, 326).
☞ One of 8 on Whatman, the third paper after a Chine and 5 Japon. Interesting dispatch to Jean de Tinan and a handwritten quatrain on the first blank f. (Autumn rumbles its great grey organs...).
Hinges a little rubbed.
