GUGLIELMO FANTINI DA CHIERI (?) (Chieri, c. 1400 ? - c. 1466) Saint Anthony Tempera on panel with gold ground, 93.5x35 cm Fantini can be considered one of the most important artists of western Piedmont active during the first half of the 15th century. His art was particularly influenced by Giacomo Jaquerio, but in him one can observe Mediterranean suggestions and also a comparison with the works of Barnaba da Modena, Andrea de Aste, inevitable influences of his uncle Giovanni Fantini and relations with the author of the 'Fountain of Youth' at the Manta Castle (Romano, 1992- L. Debernardi, Il ciclo quattrocentesco del Castello della Manta. Considerazioni sull'interpretazione iconografica, nuove acquisizioni, in Opera Nomina Historiae 8, 2013, Giornale di cultura artistica, pp. 175-276). From these data we can therefore assess the European vocation that the city of Chieri expressed during the 15th century by virtue of a patronage that supported an international culture and that was best expressed in the Duomo building site in which Fantini was a protagonist together with his uncle Giovanni and collaborators.
