Born in Reims around 1450, Guillaume Coquillart studied law in Paris, where he practised as a lawyer. Tired of this city, where he observed the injustice and partiality of the great and the torments of love, he returned to Reims where he devoted himself to the office of ecclesiastical judge. Œuvres nouvellement reveues in which the text has been slightly altered. It lacks the short political plays written by Coquillart, but includes for the first time the Monologue du Pays and the Monologue du gendarme cassé. Included here are Les droitz nouveaulx, Le Plaidoier, l'Enqueste dentre la simple & la Rusée, Le Blason des armes et des dames, Le monologue de la botte de foing, as well as the monologues du Puys, du gendarme cassé and des Perruques.
