In 1933, Gene Autry (1907 - 1998) commissioned the "biggest and most sophisticated" guitar Martin could build.
Martin responded by creating a D-28 with deluxe embellishments, giving birth to the D-45.
An offshoot of the first 'Dreadnought' format guitars with X-bracing and bearing Martin's trademark, this model was offered as early as 1937 and listed in the catalogue as early as 1938.
The model on offer here is extremely rare, as only 50 were produced, with the guitar shown here bearing the number 11.
The 50 examples represent the 50 years between the year of production of this model and the 'officialization' of the D-45 14 fret model in 1937.
