Lot no. 147
Hamadi BEN SAAD (1948) Untitled (multiple faces), oil on panel, signed and dated ‘96’ in the lower left-hand corner, 106 x 74 cm. Note: Hamadi Ben Saad (1948–2025), a self-taught Tunisian artist and former primary school teacher, began developing his own distinctive, expressive and deeply rooted body of work in 1976, drawing inspiration from three years spent at the Cité internationale des arts in Paris. Working with recycled materials (kraft paper, newspaper, cardboard, posters, fabrics), he created works in the spirit of Arte Povera and New Realism, independent of trends and conventions. Exhibited at the École de Tunis as well as in France, Italy, Switzerland and Denmark, his style—characterised by emotional depth and a restrained colour palette—is recognised as a significant contribution to contemporary Tunisian painting.
